ABOUT: L’Olivera is a small social cooperative born in 1974 with the vocation of cultivating the typical culture of the area. In 1989 decided to invest in a cellar with the idea to elaborate the grapes coming from its own vineyards, following the philosophy of creating its own range of quality products, based in the whole control of its production phases–from the culture of the land until the commercialization–, searching at the same time to offer singular products in the current world wine panorama.
L’Olivera’s vineyards, a total of 20 hes, are mostly all found in small parcels, less than 1 has, sustained by stone margins and dispersed around the municipal term. The field called ‘La Plana’ corresponds in an antigue property of the monastery and when it is plowed, small pieces of pottery coming from the monastery workshops turn up (centuries XVII-XVIII), with blue enamels, colour that some labels and bottles replay.
In these allotments several varieties are cultivated: Macabeo, Parellada, Grenache, Xarel·lo, Malvasia, Chardonnay… that permit elaborating 180.000 bottles and employing 50 people. The works are made in the traditional way, and many of them are made manually. The harvest is also made by hand, picked up in small amounts, guaranteeing the quality of the grape.
The winery is located in a former barn and is equipped with all the modern technology necessary to obtain fine quality wines.
